Understanding Auriel for Authors

Rights

  • We offer two plans: non-exclusive (authors have unrestricted audio distribution) or exclusive (authors grant Auriel exclusive audio publishing rights).
  • You may remove your audio from Auriel or start cross posting audio to other platforms by adjusting your Plan. Changes will go into effect after the end of next month.

How it Works

Submit Story for Review

Get your story set up on Auriel with our review process.

Getting started is straightforward: create your account in the Auriel Author App and submit your application with your story details. Whether you're already publishing on existing platforms or have a Patreon following, include those links to help us understand your work and audience.

Our team reviews every submission for content guidelines and commercial viability to ensure Auriel is the right fit for your story. Once approved, your story will be created in DRAFT status, ready for you to customize and launch.

Publish Your Story

Fine-tune your story and bring it to life with narration.

Once your story is approved, you can review and edit your story to ensure it's perfect before launch. For the best listening experience, we recommend working with a voice actor on the Auriel platform. Authors on our exclusive plan receive up to an additional 10% royalty contribution to help cover voice actor costs, making professional narration more accessible.

If hiring a voice actor doesn't make sense right now, Auriel offers complimentary AI narration with best-in-class synthetic voices. You can then graduate to a voice actor when it makes sense.

Once your story is live, share your Auriel link with your existing audience to introduce them to the audio version of your work.

Keeping your story current is key to building momentum. As you write new chapters, upload them to keep your audience engaged and coming back for more.

The best part: you start earning immediately from your audio content. Receive monthly payouts automatically to access your earnings. Your compensation is based on your chosen plan and how much your listeners engage with your content.

Payment Calculation

Rough TLDR

You receive R% of Auriel subscription revenue attributable to you (where R is your royalty rate), plus up to an additional 10% towards voice acting if on the exclusive plan, minus payment processing costs.

Detailed Example

To understand payouts in detail, we'll work through a an example. For this discussion, we'll assume:

  • A royalty rate of 80% (the pre-launch promotional rate for exclusive authors).
  • You are using a voice actor (VA) through the Auriel platform; so you're eligible to receive up to 10% additional royalty contribution towards paying them.
  • Last month, seven hundred Auriel subscribers listened to your work:
    • Four hundred subscribers@$12/mo listened to you for 1/2 of their listening time.
    • Two hundred subscribers@$12/mo listened to you for 3/4 of their time.
    • One hundred subscribers@$25/mo listened to you for 2/5 for their time.
  • A flat 4% payment processing fee for subscriptions.
  • A flat 1% payment processing fee for author payments.

From the above, we can calculate your payout:

Find Attributable Revenue
Multiply listening fraction × subscription amount for each listener:
• 400 listeners × 1/2 × $12 = $2,400
• 200 listeners × 3/4 × $12 = $1,800
• 100 listeners × 2/5 × $25 = $1,000
Total revenue attributable to your work: $5,200

Subscription Processing Fees
Deduct the payment processing fee for subscriptions:
$5,200 -4%= $4,992

Royalty Rate and Payout
Apply your 80% royalty rate:
$4,992 ×80%= $3,993.60
Compute the maximum 10% VA royalty contribution:
$4,992 ×10%= $499.20
Deduct the payment processing fee:
Payout: $3,993.60 -1%= $3,953.66
VA Royalty: $499.20 -1%= $494.20
Final Result

Your overall payout for last month would be $3,953.66, plus up to $494.20 towards voice acting.
